9/11/07 - News and Notes

  • Wisconsin WR Paul Hubbard is expected to miss 6-8 weeks after suffering a knee injury in the Badger's win at UNLV. Hubbard sprained his knee, but fortunately for the Badgers, there was no ACL tear which means the senior wide receiver should return at some point this season.
  • Michigan QB Chad Henne will not play against Notre Dame, but Wolverine coach Lloyd Carr expects Henne to return this season. The Michigan offense will be led by Freshman QB Ryan Mallett in Saturday's matchup against 0-2 Notre Dame.
  • Northwestern RB Tyrell Sutton may miss Saturday's home game against Duke. Sutton twisted his ankle in the Wildcat's win over Nevada, and will be a game time decision.
  • Penn State senior Austin Scott is making the most of his last season as a Nittany Lion. The oft-injured running back rushed for 116 yards on a career-high 28 carries in PSU's win over Notre Dame.
  • The Iowa Hawkeyes travel across state to Ames on Saturday to face 0-2 Iowa State. First year Cyclone coach Gene Chizik has been very impressed with Iowa thus far in wins over Northern Illinois and Syracuse.
  • Illinois has not won a game in a domed stadium since 1994. The Illini travel to the Carrier Dome to face 0-2 Syracuse on Saturday. Syracuse beat Illinois in Chaimpaign last year 31-21.
  • Minnesota Freshman QB Adam Weber and Purdue QB Curtis Painter were named co-Big Ten Offensive Players of the Week. Weber set a Minnesota freshman record with 368 total yards and was responsible for 5 TDs in the Gopher's 3 overtime win over Miami (Ohio).
  • Penn State LB Dan Connor was named Big Ten Defensive Player of Week after his 12 tackle performance against Notre Dame. Iowa's Kenny Iwebema was named Special Teams Player of the Week. Iwebema blocked 2 field goals in Iowa's shutout of Syracuse.
