Where are they now? Asad Abdul-Khaliq

Asad Abdul-Khaliq played quarterback for the Minnesota Golden Gophers from 2000 to 2003. Asad started as a freshman for Minnesota and was a four year letterwinner. Abdul-Khaliq holds school records for career touchdown passes with 55 and total offense with 7,818 yards. In his junior year of 2002, Asad led the Gophers to an 8-5 record and a 29-14 victory over Arkansas in the Music City Bowl. During his senior campaign of 2003, Abdul-Khaliq passed for 2,401 yards and threw for 17 touchdowns and rushed for 4 TDs. Minnesota finished the season 10-3 after beating Oregon 31-30 in the 2003 Sun Bowl. The Gophers were ranked 17th in the final USA Today Coaches Poll.

Abdul-Khaliq was not drafted in the 2004 NFL Draft and signed a free agent contract with the Chicago Rush of the Arena Football League. Asad did not see any action for the Rush in his rookie year, and played in only 2 games in 2006. He was then acquired by the AFL's New York Dragons for the 2007 season. Abdul-Khaliq did not start in any games at QB for the Dragons this past season, but he did see some time as a defensive back. The Dragons finished the 2007 season with a 5-11 record and missed the AFL Playoffs.
