Where are they now? Rick Rickert

Rick Rickert played center for the Minnesota Golden Gophers from 2001 to 2003. Rickert was named the 2001 Minnesota Mr. Basketball as a high school senior and came to Minnesota after previous commitments with Arizona and Duke. He became the Gopher's first ever Big Ten Freshman of the Year after averaging 15 points and 5 rebounds per game in 2001-02. Rickert averaged 16 points and 6 rebounds per game in his sophomore season and declared for the 2003 NBA Draft after just two years at Minnesota.

Rickert was drafted in the 2nd Round of the 2003 NBA Draft by the Minnesota Timberwolves with the 55th overall pick. He failed to make the team and decided to play professionally in Europe. Rickert has since played for various European teams as well as in the NBA's Development League. He was selected to the NBADL's 2007 All-Star Game while playing for the Fayetteville Patriots.

Rick Rickert currently is playing professionally for the New Zealand Breakers of Australia's National Basketball League. Rickert is currently averaging 17.8 points per game and is 2nd in the league with 10.7 rebounds per game. Through 25 games the Breaker's are 13-12 on the season.

So being the last pick in the NBA draft doesn't guarantee fame and fortune? Who knew?

His Aussie team is stacked with other not quite good enough Gophers. I'm pretty sure Dusty Rychart is on that team.

Not sure about Rychart, but fellow ex-Big 10er Kirk Penney plays on the same team as Rickert.

Rickert should never have gone pro after his sophomore year. Had he stayed for 4 years he could have been a high pick. His inside-outside game was well suited for the NBA, but he needed to toughen up.

I bought www.rickrickert.com because 1) I hate Rick Rickert and 2) I hope that he buys it from me some day.

Rick has just signed for his 3rd season with the Breakers. What a mistake for the Breakers!! His game is in decline. Can't get it done inside and relies on pumping himself up as an an emotional leader.Garbage man at best!!!
