Where are they now? Scoonie Penn

Scoonie Penn played point guard for the Ohio State Buckeyes from 1998 to 2000. Penn started his career at Boston College but transferred to Ohio State after the 1996-97 season to play for coach Jim O'Brien. Scoonie was named Big Ten Player of the Year his junior season of 1999 and helped lead the Buckeyes to the Final Four. That Final Four appearance has since been vacated by the NCAA due to rules infractions committed during O'Brien's tenure. He was named 1st Team All-Big Ten in both 1999 and 2000.

Scoonie Penn was selected by the Atlanta Hawks with the 57th overall pick in the 2000 NBA Draft. Penn never played a game in the NBA, but instead he signed a contract to play professionally in Italy.

Penn has played professional basketball all over Europe since 2000 in Italy, Serbia, Croatia and Greece. Scoonie currently plays for Efes Pilsen S.K. in the Turkish Basketball League. Penn has played in 12 games this season and is currently averaging 11.1 points and 2.6 assists per game. His team is currently 12-4 and tied for second in the league.

Thanks Jason. I think people have really forgotten how good of a college player Scoonie was.

Still my favorite college basketball player. It is no surprise that he's been such a fan favorite in Europe, and I'm glad to hear he's been able to make a living playing ball. Ohio State owes Scoonie a huge debt of gratitude for turning around the team in the late 90s.
