9/12/07 - Where are they now? - Joe Germaine

Joe Germaine was quarterback for the Ohio State Buckeyes from 1996 to 1998. Germaine served as back-up to QB Stanley Jackson in 1996 and 97, before becoming the starter in 1998. Germaine took over for Jackson in the 1997 Rose Bowl, and led the Buckeyes on a 12-play, 65-yard drive in the game's final 2 minutes finally connecting with David Boston for the game-winning touchdown with 19 seconds to play. Germaine threw for 131 yards in the '97 Rose Bowl and was named Rose Bowl MVP. During his one year as starting QB, Joe threw for 3,330 yards and 25 touchdowns while leading the Buckeyes to a 11-1 record and a co-Big Ten Championship. Germaine was named the 1998 Big Ten Most Valuable Player.

Germaine was drafted in the 4th round of the 1999 NFL Draft by the St. Louis Rams and won a Super Bowl ring while serving as 3rd string QB in his rookie season. Joe was cut by the Rams after his first year, and after a brief stint with the Kansas City Chiefs, Germaine joined the Arizona Rattlers of the Arena Football League.

Germaine currently serves as the starting quarterback for the AFL's Utah Blaze. In the 2007, Joe became the first AFL QB to ever throw for over 5,000 yards in a season. He finished the season with a new league record 5,005 yards passing while also throwing for 107 touchdowns and 12 interceptions in 16 regular season games. The Blaze finished the season with an 8-8 record, good enough for 3rd place in the Western Division of the AFL's American Conference.
