Tom Coverdale played guard for the Indiana Hoosiers from 1999-2003. During his junior year of 2002, Indiana reached the Final Four and upset 3-seed Oklahoma to reach the National Championship game where they were defeated by Maryland. The next year as a senior, Coverdale had possibly his best game as a Hoosier in IU's 80-74 win over Maryland in the Big Ten/ACC Challenge. Coverdale ended that game with 30 points, six rebounds, five assists, four steals, and committed only one turnover. Coverdale finished his career at Indiana ranked 2nd in 3-pointers made (200) and 3rd all time in assists (500). He is still the only Hoosier to ever have 1,000 points, 200 three-pointers, and 500 assists in a career.
Coverdale was not drafted in the 2003 NBA Draft and signed on with Rockford of the CBA. He played one season in the CBA before heading to Europe to play in Germany for a year.
In 2005, Coverdale was named to the staff at the University of Louisiana-Monroe. He currently serves as an Assistant Coach for Orlando Early's staff at UL-Monroe. The Warhawks are currently 2-4, with losses to Kansas and Michigan State. UL-Monroe will face Iowa on Friday night in Iowa City.
