Woolridge was passed up in the 1997 NBA Draft and decided to play professionally overseas in Turkey. He has since played professionally in France, Greece and Italy as well. Woolridge has been invited to some NBA training camps since his time in Turkey and also played for the Asheville Altitude of the NBDL in 2002 and 2003. The closest he has ever come to playing in the NBA was probably in 2000 when Andre was invited to participate in training camp for the Denver Nuggets. However, Woolridge was waived before the season started.
Currently, Woolridge is back playing in the Turkish Basketball League for Oyak Renault. They are currently 4-11 on the season and tied for 13th out of 16 teams in the league. Woolridge is leading the team in points and assists, averaging 15.2 points per game and 3.5 assists per game.
Sweet, Andre was one of my favorite Hawks. Still can't believe he never got a gig on an NBA team.
ReplyDeleteI agree, I thought he was overshadowed by Bobby Jackson, but almost single handedly beat Kentucky in his last NCAA tournament.
ReplyDeleteHe should have been the POY in the conference that year, but Clem has his cheaters winning in Minnesota.
It is too bad he never made it to the league.
Yes, Bobby Jackson won Big 10 MVP that year. Still not sure how since Woolridge led the conference in points and assists. Plus, Minnesota was cheating! ;-)
ReplyDeleteAndre was amazing. He was the whole team that year and was unstoppable. That NCAA game vs Kentucky was something to watch...
ReplyDeleteHe is real good! "wink"
ReplyDeleteYeah he should have made the league. I think he was blackballed in some way
